The highly regarded Argentinian duo, Gonzalo and Braian Toollbox, began their technoship at 17 years old, and now create a spooky, dark minimal techno sound opening a wide and breathable mystical space. This is adventurous magic surrealist dark minimal techno with an orchestral intensity, deep but never grandiose and overbearing, they turn on a groovy bass.
Their live set, Community of Electronic Music of Patagonia Argentina JUNIO 2012 (youtube.com
), exudes pure warmth. It is a good example of their house influence with consistent bass rising in repetition and taken into the dark minimal realm. In their track Ahci, Felix Lorusso Remix, steam fills up a chamber and vocal effects are eroticly aggressive. Toollbox (youtube.com
) live at Groovies in 2012, is a really interesting sample of their minimal funk element. Toollbox uses succint keyboard sound like the 70s female funk trio ESG from the Bronx, NYC and heats it up with a fast flair of Argentinian shake. Their funk elelment is also heard in the amazing play with rhythm and effect when their track Der Triumph des Willens takes off in the middle. This is a full, sick track you really should not miss.
The track being presented is called Montreal, dedicated to the people of Montreal. It is spurred by an effect like an amplified whirring chain. There are bells and shadows. It begins with a hardcore, anticipating hand, shining delicate hand chime effects follow. There are phantomes, and small psychological illusions to break through, but this is not a difficult psychological experience. It is a trip through fantastic woods. At 1:16, there is a new phase after a heavy buildup, and at 1:32 hot beats fire up the ambiance, effects are more intense, and you are really in. 2:03 brings you into a thick comfortable ooze, dancing is free, easy and exhilerating, getting low and deep from here. With a freshness to the beats, and never overcrowded, these tracks are crisp and breathable.
